Equity
At Hollywood Schoolhouse, IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Allyship) is not a separate initiative.
It is fully woven into the way we teach, learn, and connect as a community. Whether our students are launching a Shark Tank-style pitch in sixth grade or sharing a Preschool Passion Project, they are encouraged to think critically, act compassionately, and build meaningful relationships.
This is made possible because IDEA is integrated into every part of our school’s approach. From curriculum to community events, from conflict resolution to classroom culture, these values guide how we support each student’s growth. They shape a learning environment grounded in empathy, leadership, and fearless curiosity.
-
Inclusion
Inclusion means every student belongs. We ensure that all children, regardless of background, identity, or learning style, feel safe, celebrated, and supported. Inclusion is visible in our book selections, classroom rituals, and community-building practices. Every voice matters, and every student knows they have a place here.
-
Diversity
Diversity means our community reflects the vibrant and varied world our students are growing up in. Families at HSH represent a wide range of cultural, racial, linguistic, and family experiences. We celebrate this diversity throughout the year with Community Circles, heritage projects, individualized student storytelling, and learning that highlight different perspectives.
-
Equity
Equity means every student gets what they need to thrive. In our classrooms, that includes differentiated instruction, individualized learning support, and equitable access to opportunities. Through tuition assistance and inclusive programming, we work to ensure that all students can fully engage and succeed.
-
Allyship
Allyship means we take care of one another. At HSH, students learn how to listen deeply, speak up kindly, and take responsibility for the wellbeing of their community. Using restorative practices, we guide students in resolving conflicts and repairing relationships with empathy and care.
Restorative Practices
Students learn how to reflect, take responsibility, and rebuild trust.
Character Strong Partnership
Social-emotional learning is integrated into the curriculum, enabling students to lead with empathy and confidence.
Social Impact Projects
Every grade level includes age-appropriate projects that connect learning to real-world issues.
Ongoing Faculty Training
Teachers receive ongoing professional development to create inclusive, equitable, and responsive classrooms.
IDEA in action, every day.
Our parent IDEA committee
At Hollywood Schoolhouse, culture is something we live together every single day. Parents play a vital role in shaping this culture through helping lead unique, schoolwide educational celebrations, inviting presenters or presenting as a group about important traditions that highlight the contributions of these communities in our society.
Our parent committees consist of Affinity and Common Interest Groups, including the Black Parent Alliance, the AANHPI (Asian American Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander) Affinity Group, Hispanic Heritage, Jewish Parents, LGBTQ+ Parents and Parents of LGBTQ+ Children, Community Support Group, and Parents of Neurodiverse Children. Together, these communities enrich the life of the school and ensure every family is seen, celebrated, and supported.
The Parent IDEA Committee’s mission is to honor the diversity that is integral to Hollywood Schoolhouse. We aim to instill in our children not only a respect for difference, but also a desire to actively participate in advancing values of diversity, equity and inclusion in order to create a more socially just world.
Our commitments include:
Building an actively reflective community
Continually refining curricula to honor multiple experiences and narratives
Holding space for community members to share various opinions and perspectives
