Hollywood Schoolhouse - Assistant Teacher Position (Early Childhood) (SHORT-TERM)
Position Overview
Hollywood Schoolhouse seeks a warm, collaborative, and dependable Assistant Teacher to join our Early Childhood Team in the three-year-old classroom. The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a joyful, engaging, and developmentally rich classroom environment. This individual will work closely with children, families, and colleagues to uphold the school’s mission and philosophy while contributing to a positive and inclusive learning community.
Position: Assistant Teacher – Three-Year-Old Classroom
Schedule: Short Term Full-time: September through approximately January
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM or 9:00 AM–6:00 PM
Reports to: Director of Early Childhood Education
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to implement play-based, developmentally appropriate activities that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.
Assist with classroom setup, organization, and daily clean-up to maintain a safe and inviting learning environment.
Support transitions, routines, and daily rhythms that promote independence and consistency for young learners.
Instruction & Learning
Engage actively with children during whole-group, small-group, and individual activities.
Support small-group lessons under the direction of the Lead Teacher and provide assistance as needed.
Encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and positive social interaction through modeling and conversation.
Supervision & Care
Supervise children across settings, including the classroom, outdoor play, enrichment, and rest time, with attention to safety and emotional well-being.
Support children in developing independence in self-care and conflict resolution skills.
Discuss any incidents with the Lead Teacher to ensure continuity and care.
Collaboration & Professionalism
Partner closely with the Lead Teacher and Early Childhood Director to communicate classroom needs and observations.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school community events.
Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and alignment with Hollywood Schoolhouse’s mission and values.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum of 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or related field preferred.
Previous experience working with preschool-aged children in a school or childcare setting.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
A nurturing, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting children’s development.
Compensation
Hourly Rate Range: $21.00 - $26.00
As a short-term full-time employee, you will accrue sick time based on the number of hours worked. Please note that this position does not include compensation for school breaks or holidays.

Position: Elementary Assistant Teacher
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Reports to: Director of Elementary
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support & Environment
Helps to maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
Assists with updating bulletin boards and displaying student work in accordance with the curriculum.
Implements the classroom management plan as assigned by the lead teacher.
Instruction & Learning
Assists the lead teacher with the preparation of instructional materials and daily lessons.
Provides small-group or individualized learning support to students as directed by the lead teacher.
Supports the adaptation of curriculum activities to meet diverse student needs.
Takes on the role of lead teacher in the absence of the lead teacher.
Supervision & Care
Supervises children both inside and outside of the classroom as required (e.g., recess, lunch, transitions).
Monitors student behavior and ensures a safe, emotionally supportive, and physically secure environment.
Assists with student arrivals, departures, and logistical transitions throughout the school day.
Communicates any incidents to the lead teacher and is responsible for documenting observations.
Communication & Community Engagement
Treats families as people first and works to make them feel known, valued, and encouraged.
Assists the lead teacher with parent-teacher conferences according to the school calendar and other meetings as necessary.
Assists with drafting and distributing weekly or daily newsletters.
Keeps all family and student matters strictly confidential, discussing them only with the administration, lead teacher, and the specific family.
Collaboration & Professionalism
Models, clarifies, and enforces school philosophy, standards, and regulations as outlined in the Staff Handbook.
Reads, understands, and strictly follows all policies and procedures outlined in the Staff Handbook.
Attends and actively participates in necessary staff meetings, grade-level meetings, and briefings as requested by the administration.
Shows continued growth and enhancement of skills and knowledge through active participation in professional development.
Fulfills additional duties as reasonably assigned by the school administration.
Qualifications & Requirements
Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or 5-10 years experience working with students in a Lead Teacher role
Demonstrated success working with students
Background with conflict resolution training/behavior management for school-age children
Advanced written and verbal communication skills
Working towards a degree in education and/or certification in teaching (preferred)
At least 3 years working with ECE or elementary age children in a supervisory role (e.g., camp counselor, tutor, assistant teacher, etc.)
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $18.00-35.00, commensurate with experience and education background
