Andy Loke,  Upper Elementary Teacher |

Dear Hollywood Schoolhouse |

Congratulations on turning 75 years old! That’s 75 years of serving the children and families of the Hollywood community through inspired curiosity and fearless learning.

Although we haven’t known each other for long, I am proud to be a part of the HSH story for the past year and a half. My name is Andy Loke and I am currently a homeroom teacher to 5th Grade and a Science teacher to 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Grade.

We first met back in 2019, when I was working as a substitute teacher. I had just arrived to the United States from Melbourne, Australia and had the opportunity to work as a substitute teacher across multiple independent LA schools. But there was always one school that stood out to me, and that was you. Some things that impressed me included how the staff members warmly welcomed me and made me feel like I was part of the community, and the students’ vigor, wittiness, and enthusiasm for learning. To this day these early impressions continue to reinvigorate my passion for teaching. Ultimately, I didn’t hesitate to apply when a position became available at HSH, and I’m glad I did.

If I were to describe Hollywood Schoolhouse in three words it would be, community, passionate and inspiring. All three of these words resonate with me on a daily basis when I walk through the hallways, when I’m in the classroom, and when I interact with the students, colleagues, and parents of the community.

I started this letter congratulating you on your 75 years, I’ll finish this by sharing my hopes for your next 75 years. I hope that you continue to inspire and develop individual inspired thinkers, thought provokers, and empathic leaders of tomorrow. I’m not sure how many of the next 75 years I’ll be around for, but I’m excited and committed to making every moment count.

Mr. Andy
