COVID-19 Protocols and Updates

As a school, we continue to look at our community and the safety of our constituents. To that end, we continue to keep informed on COVID protocols in LA County and any other diseases or contagious illnesses that could threaten the health and safety of our population.
Below are the updated and modified protocols put in place for the 2022-2023 school year. We will continue to follow current LA County Dept. of Public Health and CDC guidelines. LA County has the most current number of cases and reflects what is happening in our immediate community.
COVID-19 DIAGNOSIS AND NOTIFICATION
We are no longer taking temperatures at school. Please assess your child’s health before you leave your home.
If your child has any symptoms pertaining to COVID-19, please keep them home per our illness policy and self-screen your child with a COVID Home Test.
Students and employees who test positive for or are diagnosed with COVID-19 should continue following the isolation guidelines:
The LADPH guidance requires that families notify schools if their student has COVID-19 and was on campus during the student’s infectious period. In turn, we will notify families of students who spent more than 15 cumulative minutes within a 24-hour time period in a shared indoor airspace.
EXPOSURE MANAGEMENT
LA County Guidelines: Asymptomatic close contacts are not required to quarantine; they may remain at the facility if they follow all requirements for close contacts, specifically: monitor for symptoms; wear a highly protective mask around others indoors for those aged 2 years and older* for 10 days after the last date of exposure; test with an FDA-authorized viral COVID-19 test (e.g., PCR or Antigen test, including at-home tests) within 3-5 days since the last date of exposure.
TESTING
We will PCR test through PMH once a week for the first month and then test only when a child may be symptomatic. Here is the PMH form to complete before the 1st day of school. Please return this form to elizabeth@hshla.org.
We recommend all families to test when they travel and submit tests to school before their child returns to school.
We will require COVID testing before returning back to school after all long vacations (Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring Break).
MASKS
LA County continues to suggest wearing masks. We no longer require masks unless there is exposure in the classroom.
Students and staff should continue to follow the same masking guidance that the LADPH has issued for the general public. The guidance provides that no person should be prevented from wearing a mask as a condition of participation in an activity or entry into the school, unless it would pose a safety hazard. Additionally, schools are required to continue making masks available to students who forget to bring a face covering to school and want to use one inside.
VACCINATIONS
We have required vaccinations and boosters for all staff. We strongly encourage all students to be vaccinated for COVID, but we are not requiring this for the 2022-23 school year unless the CA Dept. of Health requires this. If at some point in the year, the state mandates vaccines, then so will Hollywood Schoolhouse. This is stated in our contract. We will accept whatever guidance LADPH recommends.
