Ms. Ericka’s 2nd Graders are beginning a scientific study of solids, liquids, and gases.  Throughout the unit they will observe the properties of many solids, liquids, and gases and through multiple investigations, students will learn how to communicate, compare, and organize their thinking process and inquiries.

As an intro to the unit, Ms. Ericka’s class performed a dancing raisins activity. Students were given a question: Do raisins dance? After following the steps of the scientific method, students discovered that placing raisins in carbonated water makes them move up and down. Some children described the raisins as being hip-hop dancers moving all around. The activity was an exciting way to help our 2nd Grade friends develop a greater understanding of what solids, liquids, and gases are.
