Ms. Ericka’s journey started in Texas. In the 4th Grade she discovered the power a teacher can have on a child’s life decisions. Ericka’s 4th Grade teacher, a strong black woman who was a nun, a guitar player, a singer and so much more, taught Ericka the importance of kindness, diversity, and the value of education. Later, she earned a BA in Psychology and a minor in Child Development from Texas State University. During her college years she met her future husband Chris and decided to take a big risk and move to California. While here in California, Ericka earned her teaching credential and Master’s degree in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College. She has been an educator for almost 20 years. Working with infants, preschoolers, elementary, and middle school aged children. She has worked in diverse educational settings from home school co-op’s to private schools, public schools, and charter schools. She brought all this experience and knowledge with her to Hollywood Schoolhouse where she is starting her 8th year as a 2nd grade teacher. Ericka enjoys the community feel that surrounds the school and the smiles, hugs, and high fives that she tends to give and receive.
In her free time she enjoys cooking, dancing, singing, traveling, camping, being in the water, and getting out in nature. She tries to live life to its fullest and make as many memories with her husband, family, friends, and her dog Zona. Her mantra is to give to the world what you want to get back. So, when you see her on campus, you can always say hi, give a high five or a hug!
